ndSync is NetDocuments’ file synchronization tool that lets you sync Workspaces, Folders, and Filters to a location on your Windows or Mac computer. Think of it as Dropbox functionality built directly into NetDocuments.

Why Use ndSync?

ndSync solves several common workflow challenges:

Offline Access — Keep active Workspaces synced to your computer so you can work anytime, regardless of internet connectivity. Perfect for travel, court appearances, or unreliable connections.

Check Out Entire Case Files — Easily sync an entire matter to your local machine with the folder structure intact, exactly as it appears in NetDocuments.

Mac Integration — Save new documents or emails directly from your Mac without opening a browser.

External User Sharing — Share documents with clients or co-counsel who aren’t familiar with the NetDocuments interface. They can work with files in a familiar folder structure.

Getting Started with ndSync

Step 1: Enable ndSync for Your Firm

Before users can install ndSync, an administrator must configure NetDocuments to enable it. This involves setting ndSync policies at the repository level.

How ndSync Works

Once installed and configured, ndSync creates a folder on your computer that mirrors your selected NetDocuments content. Changes sync automatically in both directions:

  • Edit a document locally → changes sync to NetDocuments
  • Edit in NetDocuments → changes sync to your local folder

The sync runs in the background, keeping everything up to date without manual intervention.
