Setting up NetDocuments on your SmartPhone

Whether you’re between meetings, traveling, or just away from your desk, the NetDocuments mobile app gives you full access to your firm’s documents from your iPhone or Android device. This guide walks you through downloading the right app, logging in, and configuring the key settings that make the mobile experience actually useful.

Step 1: Download the NetDocuments App

iPhone

Search for NetDocuments in the App Store, or use this direct link: NetDocuments on the App Store

Important: There are several NetDocuments apps in the App Store. You want the standard NetDocuments app — not NetDocuments EMM (for enterprise mobile management deployments) and not NetDocuments for BlackBerry. If you’re unsure, confirm with your IT administrator or NetDocuments administrator which version your firm uses.

Search for NetDocuments in the Google Play Store, or use this direct link: NetDocuments on Google Play

Step 2: Log In

Open the app and sign in with your NetDocuments credentials.

If your firm uses Single Sign-On (SSO) — meaning you log into NetDocuments using your Microsoft 365 password — tap CONTINUE WITH SSO instead of entering a username and password directly. This routes you through your firm’s identity provider and keeps everything consistent with how you log in on your desktop.

Step 3: Configure Your Settings

After logging in, look for the gear icon or Settings option in the app. Here are the settings I recommend configuring right away:

Automatic Login

Turn this on. Without it, you’ll be prompted to enter your NetDocuments credentials every time you open the app — which gets tedious fast. With it enabled, the app picks up right where you left off.

Passcode Lock

Turn this on. Enabling a passcode (or biometric authentication like Face ID or fingerprint) ensures that if your phone is lost or stolen, your clients’ documents aren’t immediately accessible to whoever finds it. This is a simple but important security measure that firms should require of all mobile users.

Display the “Edit Using Office” Action

Turn this on. This setting adds an option when you open a document that lets you launch it directly in the appropriate Microsoft Office app on your phone — Word for .docx files, Excel for spreadsheets, and so on. Without this enabled, you can view documents but editing them is more cumbersome.

Next Step: Connect Microsoft Office to NetDocuments

Once the app is configured, the last piece of the puzzle is to make sure Microsoft Office on your phone is set up to save documents to NetDocuments — not to OneDrive or local storage.
