The Filing Check Box (Global Filing Indicator) does not show up in Outlook when saving an email to NetDocuments.

If you’ve saved an email to NetDocuments but can’t see the global file indicator in your Outlook inbox, don’t worry—this is a common issue with several straightforward solutions. This guide will walk you through the troubleshooting steps to get that indicator showing again.

What is the Global File Indicator?

The global file indicator is a visual marker (typically an icon or symbol) that appears in your Outlook inbox next to emails that have been saved to NetDocuments. This indicator helps you quickly identify which emails have already been filed, preventing duplicate saves and keeping your document management organized.

Common Causes and Solutions

Refresh Your Mailbox View

Sometimes Outlook needs a refresh to display the indicators correctly.

Try these steps:

  • Click View –> Reset View
  • Click View –> Change View and switch to another view, and then back to the original view.
  • Click View, then select Compact View.
  • Click View> View Settings, then select Columns.  Under User-defined Fields in Inbox, add the Filing Indicator or the ND Column.

If you still don’t see the checkbox (Global Filing Indicator) following your email after saving it in NetDocuments, please get in touch with NetDocuments Tech Support at 801-226-6882, Option 2.
