You don’t install NetDocuments on a Mac the way you do on Windows. The list is shorter and the names are different.
There are two pieces of software you install yourself: ndClick and ndSync.
There Is No ndOffice for Mac
On Windows, ndOffice is the workhorse. It puts NetDocuments inside Word, Excel, and Outlook, which is why a Windows user clicks Save in Word and lands in a Workspace.
There is no Mac version, and there isn’t going to be one. On a Mac that job belongs to ndClick, which works differently — it sits in the menu bar and takes over when you click a document in the browser.
So the buttons your Windows colleagues describe — the ones inside Word and Outlook — aren’t missing from your Mac. They were never there. Nothing is broken and nothing needs reinstalling.
The Two Things You Install
- ndClick – Required.
- ndSync – Optional.
ndClick — Required
This is the one that matters. ndClick downloads a document to your Mac when you click it in NetDocuments, checks it out to you, opens it in Word or Excel, and sends your changes back when you check it in.
Without it, clicking a document name in NetDocuments does nothing at all. No download, no error worth reading. Every Mac user at the firm needs it.
ndSync — Optional
ndSync keeps a two-way copy of selected NetDocuments folders on your Mac. Changes you make to those files sync back to NetDocuments.
What You’ll Need Before You Install NetDocuments on a Mac
Patience with one macOS warning. macOS will say the installer is from an unidentified developer and refuse to open it. That’s Apple being cautious about anything that didn’t come from the App Store — it isn’t a bad download. Right-click the installer and choose Open instead of double-clicking it.
Your NetDocuments login. ndClick has its own sign-in, separate from the website. Being logged in to NetDocuments in Chrome doesn’t sign in ndClick.
