If you open Outlook and can’t find the ndSave or ndMail button, you’re not alone. This is a support question we regularly hear from NetDocuments users using classic Outlook for Windows. The good news: the buttons are almost certainly still there — they’re just hidden. Here’s how to find them.
ndSave Is Missing from the Ribbon
If the ndSave button has disappeared from your Outlook ribbon, the fix is usually switching from the Simplified Ribbon to the Classic Ribbon.
- Look at the very right-hand corner of the Outlook ribbon — you’ll see a small arrow
- Click that arrow and select Classic Ribbon
- Your ndSave button should reappear in the ribbon
The Simplified Ribbon condenses the toolbar and can hide add-in buttons like ndSave. Switching to the Classic Ribbon gives add-ins the full ribbon space they need to display properly.
ndMail Is Missing from the Ribbon
ndMail behaves a little differently. Rather than always appearing in the main ribbon, where ndMail shows up in Outlook depends on how your Outlook is configured. If you can’t find it in the ribbon, check the bottom of your Outlook window — ndMail may be docked there instead.
- Look at the very bottom of your Outlook window for an ndMail panel
- If you see it, click the arrows on it to expand it
- Once expanded, you can click and drag the top title bar of the ndMail panel to move it to wherever you prefer in Outlook
Still Not Showing Up?
If neither of the above steps resolved your issue, the problem may be that Outlook has disabled the NetDocuments add-in entirely, which is a separate issue with its own fix. See our post My NetDocuments Plugins in Word, Excel & Outlook Have Disappeared for step-by-step instructions on re-enabling a disabled add-in.
A Note on New Outlook
The steps above apply only to classic Outlook for Windows. If your firm has switched to the new Outlook, the ndOffice add-in behavior is different. If you’re unsure which version you have, look for a “New Outlook” toggle in the upper-right corner of the Outlook window.
